The invention relates to a bacterial strain able to degrade microcystins in an aqueous medium. The invention also relates to a method for reducing the content of microcystins or preventing the accumulation thereof in an aqueous medium. Lastly, the present invention further relates to an efficient method for isolating microcystin-degrading microorganisms.
