Disclosed in embodiments of the present invention are a voice coding adjustment method for VoLTE communication, and a serving base station. The method comprises: when a local terminal and a peer terminal have established VoLTE communication, a serving base station obtains quality information of the VoLTE communication according to a preset condition; the base station performs smooth processing on the quality information, and obtains coding information of the VoLTE communication according to the quality information on which smooth processing has been performed, the coding information comprising a final communication voice coding manner and a corresponding bit rate; and the serving base station sends the coding information to a serving base station corresponding to the peer terminal, so that the serving base station and the serving base station corresponding to the peer terminal adjust voice codes for the VoLTE communication. In this way, in the present invention, a voice coding manner and a bit rate are adjusted on two sides according to a preset condition, and smooth transition of voices in VoLTE communication is ensured when the voice coding manner is adjusted.
