A base module which is planar, comprising: a planar cover composed of two superposed film layers which are connected to one another at the edges, so that these edges delimit an enclosed interior space; a planar interior structure which can be flowed through and is arranged in the enclosed interior space of the cover; wherein the base module is suitable for a method for producing a unit through which a fluid can flow, having the function of a heat exchanger, a filter, or a combination of the two, comprising: an external housing provided with external entries for a fluid; an internal unit through which a fluid can flow and which is placed within the housing; wherein the internal unit comprises a number of stacked base modules which, in the method, are brought into a state in which they can be flowed through.
