Disclosed in the embodiments of the present invention are an IP address renewal method and apparatus, the method comprising: a controller acquires dynamic host configuration protocol DHCP address information from a client terminal, the DHCP address information comprising the IP address of the client terminal, the MAC address of the client terminal, and the address of the DHCP server allocating the IP address to the client terminal; when the controller determines that the client terminal has powered down, the controller uses the address of the DHCP server to send to the DHCP server an IP renewal request comprising the IP address and the MAC address, in order to renew the IP address until the client terminal registers to the controller. In the technical solution of the present invention, each time the client terminal powers up, the client terminal can use the same IP address, thus ensuring that the service configuration of the client terminal relating to the IP address continues to be effective and does not require changes.
