Embodiments herein provide method and apparatus for pilot design, signal encoding and decoding in a cloud radio or massive MIMO system. The method includes grouping a plurality of remote radio heads (RRHs). The method includes identifying at least one neighboring RRH from the plurality of RRHs causing interference based on intensity of the interference. The method includes selecting a plurality of encoded pilots of the at least one neighboring RRH from the plurality of RRHs not causing interference. Further, the method includes transmitting the plurality of encoded pilots to a user equipment (UE).
