The present invention relates to an urban or industrial vacuum cleaner (5) comprising two motorised rear wheels and at least one front wheel (6) which is pivotable in order to steer the vacuum cleaner, the latter further comprising a handlebar for steering the vacuum cleaner, wherein the vacuum cleaner (1) comprises a motor (31) that controls the pivoting of the front wheel (6). The vacuum cleaner is further provided with two sensors (20, 21) configured to generate signals according to the direction in which the handlebar is moved, the motor (31) being activated in one or the other rotational direction according to the signals generated, respectively, by one or the other of the sensors (20, 21).
