The invention relates to a method and a device for the generative production of a three-dimensional object from a material which can be solidified by cooling and which has a temperature-dependent viscosity. The fluid starting material is held in a material store (3) at a specified temperature and at a specified pressure and exits the store via a thermally switchable nozzle (4). The nozzle (4) is heated rapidly by applying laser radiation (6.1) to the nozzle (4) in a controlled manner, and a sub-volume of the fluid starting material adjacent to the nozzle (4) is heated to an outlet temperature which is higher than the specified temperature and at which the viscosity of the sub-volume is so low that the sub-volume, to which the specified pressure is being applied, passes through the nozzle opening (4.1).
