The present invention relates to a system, a method and a computer program determining the sex in-ovo or determining the sex of living birds using a plurality of known male and female absorption spectra measured in-ovo or on living birds. The method includes the following steps: a) determining a target architecture with at least one optimized parameter for determining the sex of unknown absorption spectra measured in-ovo or on living birds using a self-generated and self-learning convolution network, wherein the convolution network determines the target architecture with the at least one optimized parameter proceeding from any initial architecture and using the provided known absorption spectra; and b) determining the sex using the determined target architecture.
