Systems and methods for hot rolling (metalworking) micro-alloyed steel material so that steel products formed by the rolling have enhanced properties are disclosed. A method includes producing steel by rolling steel that comprises niobium in a roughing mill. The method may also include sending the rolled steel from the roughing mill to a finishing mill and cooling the rolled steel, en route to the finishing mill, to a temperature sufficient to precipitate the niobium in the rolled steel while the rolled steel is in the finishing mill.
