A capacitance type input device 100 is provided with: a first cover layer 131 having a first operation surface 122; a second cover layer 132 having a second operation surface 123; a sensor layer 130 positioned between the first cover layer 131 and the second cover layer 132; and a detection unit 142. The sensor layer 130 includes a plurality of electrodes 150, the capacitance of which changes corresponding to the position with respect to an external operation body on the first operation surface 122 side, and the position with respect to another external operation body on the second operation surface 123 side. The first cover layer 131 insulates the first operation surface 122 and the electrodes 150 from each other, the second cover layer 132 insulates the second operation surface 123 and the electrodes 150 from each other, and the detection unit 142 detects a capacitance change of the electrodes 150.
