The invention relates to a method for monitoring the state of operating utensils for surgical interventions and similar applications, wherein the state of the operating utensils is preferably continually detected by means of sensors installed therein, based on parameters which are relevant for the operational capability thereof, such as temperature, moisture, impulse, EO concentration, radiation, etc. The data obtained therefrom are evaluated, simultaneously or in a time-delayed manner, in a data processing device, based on instrument-specific target specifications, preferably algorithmically.
