The invention relates to the field of mechanical engineering, and specifically to the technology of manufacturing steel pipes with a polymer coating that are used for building and operating oil and gas pipelines and heat and water supply systems, including large-diameter pipes. The technical result of the claimed group of inventions is an increase in impact resistance, resistance of a coating to penetration, adhesive strength, and stability of polymer coating adhesion in the process of long-term usage of pipes. A method of producing a radiation-modified polymer coating on a steel pipe includes the application of at least one primer layer on a pipe surface, the application of at least one adhesive layer on the primer layer, and the subsequent application of at least one polymer layer based on polyolefins onto the adhesive layer and radiation modification of the coating using at least one electron accelerator with a radiation dose of 1-100 Mrad and a ratio of displacement speed to rotation speed of the pipe equal to 0.1-5.0.
