The invention relates to a control of the gas-cooled rotor winding of generators to a constant temperature by temperature-dependent or load-dependent closed loop control of the cooling gas pressure. The invention allows a considerable reduction in thermo-mechanical load on the rotor winding since the rotor winding is substantially run at constant temperature.
