An image analysis-based eye movement direction identification method and device, comprising the following steps: continuously acquiring eye images at preset time intervals via a camera (S1); analysing a first eye image, extracting a pupil surrounding image, calculating a pupil surrounding image area of the first eye image, and storing as a first eye movement state (S2), the pupil surrounding image comprising the image between the inner edge of the eye socket and the outer edge of the pupil; analysing an N^th+1 eye image, extracting a pupil surrounding image, calculating a pupil surrounding image area of the N^th+1 eye image, and storing as an N^th+1 eye movement state, N being a natural number (S3); determining an eye movement direction according to a change trend in the pupil surrounding image areas of the first eye movement state and the N^th+1 eye movement state (S4).
