A confocal scanner attached to a microscope, comprising: a linear light source that emits linear light; a linear detector having a linear detection unit that detects incident light at each line; and a travel device that translates the linear light source and the linear detector relative to the microscope. The linear light source and the linear detector are arranged at corresponding positional relationships in the imaging plane at conjugate positions relative to the focal plane of the microscope.
