An object of the present invention is to provide a method of preparing a dry type carbon dioxide absorbent which has excellent absorption capacity and thermal stability with respect to carbon dioxide in a flue gas of a middle temperature of 200 to 450C, and the carbon dioxide absorbent prepared by the method. The method of preparing the carbon dioxide absorbent comprising the steps of: mixing a metal carbonate solution with a magnesium salt solution to prepare a magnesium oxide (MgO) precursor solution; filtering the prepared MgO precursor solution; preparing a mixed solution of the filtered MgO precursor and an alkali metal salt solution; stirring the mixed solution, and drying the stirred mixed solution to obtain a dried product; and calcining the dried product.
