The present invention relates to novel cyanoethyl guar gum and a cathode for a secondary battery using the same as a binder, and a secondary battery including the same. The secondary battery of the present invention has enhanced battery efficiency and also gives eco-friendly effects. The novel cyanoethyl guar gum is represented by chemical formula 1. The preparation method of cyanoethyl guar gum having chemical formula 1 comprises the steps of: dissolving guar gum in water to produce a guar gum solution; adding acrylonitrile to the guar gum solution to trigger reaction; and washing the reactant produced from the reaction to separate solid.
