Provided is a skin-whitening composition containing saponified evening primrose seed oil as an active ingredient. The saponified evening primrose seed oil suppresses expression of tyrosinase gene essentially involved in production of melanin pigments as well as tyrosinase-related protein 1 (Trp1), Trp2, and microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF) genes associated with melanin pigment formation, and also shows excellent pigmentation inhibitory effects, thereby being useful for skin-whitening.
