The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition including an extract of Sparganium rhizome as an active ingredient for the prevention or treatment of hyperglucagonemia. According to the present invention, the composition has a hypoglycemic activity and high glucagon secretion inhibiting activity. The extract of Sparganium rhizome exhibits significant hypoglycemic and high glucagon secretion inhibiting activities as well as ensured safety as a natural medicinal substance to be used as a pharmaceutical composition or dietary supplement for the prevention or treatment of hyperglucagonemia and diabetic diseases.
