The present invention relates to a transformable flying robot system to maintain a powerline and a control method thereof. According to the present invention, the system comprises: a flying robot (10) capable of flying; a detachable driving means (20) including a plurality of wheels, attached to a powerline (1) to allow the flying robot (10) to drive along the powerline (L), detached from the powerline (L) to allow the flying robot (10) to fly when an obstacle (K) is detected, and attached to the powerline (L) again to allow the flying robot (10) to drive along the powerline (L) when the obstacle is passed; and an inspection means (70) to inspect the powerline (L). Accordingly, provided are advantages of being easily installed on and removed from the powerline, easily avoiding the obstacle, reducing energy required for driving to realize a long-time autonomous inspection, and ultra-closely approaching the powerline to realize a precise inspection.
