The present invention relates to a biometric identity card to protect card information and determine the authenticity of a card user by using a biometric technique and unique biometric information of a card holder and encrypting card information, and a user authentication method of the biometric identity card. According to the present invention, the user authentication method of the biometric identity card comprises: a step of, when registering a card holder, scanning the first biometric information of the card holder; a step of encrypting the first secret authentication value by using a first encryption key to generate an encrypted secret authentication value; a step of biometric-encrypting the first encryption key by using the first biometric information to generate a biometric-encrypted encryption key; a step of storing the encrypted secret authentication value and the encryption key, which is biometric-encrypted, in an internal memory; a step of, when a card user uses the card, scanning the second biometric information of the card user; a step of generating a second encryption key from the biometric-encrypted encryption key by using the second biometric information; a step of decoding the encrypted secret authentication value by using the second encryption key to generate a second secret authentication value; and a step of making an authentication server authenticate if the card holder equals the card user by using the second secret authentication value.
