The present invention provides a method of preparing a single wall carbon nanotube reinforced metal matrix composite material, the method comprising the steps of: (a) ball milling a metal powder and a single wall carbon nanotube powder to prepare a composite powder; and (b) spark plasma sintering (SPS) the composite powder prepared in the step (a) to prepare a metal-carbon nanotube composite material. The method according to the present invention is capable of easily preparing a bulk type single wall carbon nanotube reinforced metal matrix composite material having excellent physical properties by adding the single wall carbon nanotube powder to various metal matrices, ball milling a mixture of the single wall carbon nanotube powder and the various metal matrices to prepare a composite powder having uniform degree of dispersion, and compounding the prepared composite powder in a short time by using an SPS process in order to manufacture a component made from a material requiring high strength and abrasion resistance.
