A method and system for predicting a future tooth or calibration state is provided. In an aspect, a computer-implemented method for calculating a future location of an intraoral subject of a patient's mouth is provided. The method may include receiving first and second digital data indicative of the actual state of the oral cavity at the first and second time points. The method may include processing the data comprising the first and second digital data to determine the velocity of the intraoral subject of the oral cavity over the first and second time points. At a future time point, the future position of the subject in the oral cavity can be determined based on the velocity.
