According to the present invention, a method for automatically classifying a genre of an audio signal is disclosed. An apparatus for classifying an audio genre includes: a spectrogram determining unit for determining a spectrogram of the audio signal; a statistically calculating unit for finding time scale statistical characteristics on the spectrogram; and a characteristics modeling unit for determining a genre of the audio signal by modeling the statistical characteristics. Especially, according to the present invention, the method for classifying an audio genre comprises: inputting the audio signal with a unit not greater than one second; determining the spectrogram with the unit not greater than one second by the spectrogram determining unit; determining statistical characteristics on the unit not greater than one second by the statistically calculating unit; and determining a genre with the unit not greater than one second by the characteristics modeling unit.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2018
