Hydrogen generating apparatus and method of the present invention are effective in minimizing the weight or volume of produced byproducts, by separating a NaBH_4 aqueous solution and an antifoaming agent in a hydrogen production reaction process to remove the influence of the antifoaming agent. A method of generating hydrogen of the present invention includes a step of producing hydrogen and byproducts by hydrolyzing NaBH_4, a step of contacting the byproducts to an antifoaming agent, and a step of collecting the generated hydrogen.
