Drill for drilling bits on solid objects such as bones. The drill includes a rotor having a bore that transmits rotational motion to the drill bit. The drill bit extends through the rotor bore. The probe extends forward from the drill to measure the bore depth. The probe is movably mounted on the drill to extend to the rotor bore. As the drill and drill bits advance in the forward direction, the probe remains stationary. As a result of advancing the drill, the rotor extends over the proximal end of the probe.
