The present invention relates to a blood cell analysis apparatus and a method of detecting a specimen and a specimen container of the blood cell analysis apparatus. The blood cell analysis apparatus includes: a rack in which a plurality of specimen containers accommodated therein with an analysis target specimen are installed; a sensing unit for simultaneously sensing accommodation states of the specimen and the specimen container; an analysis unit for analyzing blood cells contained in the specimen by sucking the specimen accommodated in the specimen container, mixing the specimen with a sheath solution, and moving the specimen; and a control unit for determining presence of the specimen and the specimen container based on a sensing result of the sensing unit, and controlling an operation of the analysis unit according to a determination result.
