Discloses a process for simultaneously converting butane and methanol to olefins for Ti-containing zeolite catalysts. The exothermic reaction of the alcohol to the olefinic reaction causes a heat-neutral process by the endothermic reaction of the dehydrogenation reaction of butane (s) to light olefins. Ti-containing zeolites not only provide excellent selectivity to light olefins, but also provide exceptionally high hydrothermal stability. The coupling reaction can advantageously be carried out in a step reactor having a methanol / DME conversion zone alternating with the zone for the dehydrogenation of the butane (s). The resulting light olefins can be reacted with isobutane to produce high octanoylates. The end result is a high efficiency, low cost method of alkylating methanol and butane.
