An exercise guidance system for the elderly using posture recognition comprises: a 3D image sensor for capturing depth images using infrared rays and color images; an operation control unit for processing the depth images to separate the human body and the background and performs processing of the human body posture recognition recognizing the human body posture, and determining a posture similarity with the instructor standard image based on the distance similarity among an upper left joint group, an upper right joint group, an upper body center joint group, a lower left joint group, and a lower right joint group of the human body; a display unit for comparing the instructor standard image with the posture of the human body recognized by the operation control unit; a data server for exchanging data with the operation control unit; and a portable terminal in which a customized application for remotely controlling the data server is installed.
