The present invention relates to a remote meter reading system which performs data transmission between a remote meter reading server and a reading data transmission device only in a predetermined cycle by using a data exchange cycle code. The remote meter reading system may include: a remote meter reading server; a data exchange period setting device capable of storing and changing a data exchange period code; an electronic metering device installed at the energy use site of a user and metering energy usage; and a metering data transferring part which is installed in the electronic metering device, has a communication protocol, receives the data exchange periodic from the data exchange period setting device, receives the energy usage meter data from the electronic metering device according to the data exchange cycle corresponding to the data exchange cycle code, and transfers the metering data to a metering server.
