Survey of Automatic and Remote Meter Reading Systems

摘要

Most gas meters are currently read by a reader who manually records the data for subsequent keying into an EDP system for ratepayer billing. Utilities would be able to reduce meter reading costs to the ratepayer if economical remote or automatic meter reading systems could be identified and made available to the industry. This study evaluates various system configurations for remote/automatic meter reading on a life-cycle cost basis. The economic study has identified a number of critically important factors which a utility company must quantify in order to estimate the total costs of automatic meter reading.
