The present invention - preparing a homogeneous mixture of particle powders comprising micrometer particles of pure Ti and nanoscale particles of at least one additional element or compound promoting the beta phase of Ti during its cooling from its phase transition temperature, - exposing the particle powder mixture to a concentrated energy source that selectively heats at least a portion of the bed of the homogeneous powder mixture at a temperature of from 850 to 1850 DEG C, - cooling the part undergoing said exposure while preserving the b-phase of Ti, or a method for forming an alloy predominantly comprising Ti or a close beta phase.
