The present invention relates to a cosmetic composition and beauty functional food containing demethoxycurcumin (DC) isolated from a Curcuma aromatic extract which has melanin synthesis inhibitory activity. According to the present invention, the microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF) is controlled in melanocytes to suppress melanogenesis, and thus the present invention can be usefully utilized for a cosmetic composition and beauty functional food for skin whitening.
