The present invention relates to a method for producing a phosphotungstic acid catalyst supported on a porous silica and a method for producing a sugar using the same, and more particularly, to a method for producing a phosphatungstic acid catalyst in which anions of phosphotungstic acid are bonded to a surface- To a porous silica-supported phosphotungstic acid catalyst capable of dramatically improving the acid-catalytic hydrolysis performance of biomass, and a method for producing a sugar using the same. According to the present invention, a phosphotungstic acid catalyst supported on porous silica can be prepared by a simple method. Also, the prepared catalyst can be applied to various kinds of biomass, and hydrolysis of the biomass can be performed in a high yield compared with the conventional catalysts.
