The present invention relates to a block used for building a retaining wall. According to the present invention, the block includes upper and lower surfaces, front and back surfaces, and left and right side surfaces. The upper and lower surfaces each have one identical horizontal surface, and the front and rear surfaces are each made of one identical vertical surface. The left and right side surfaces are perpendicular to the rear surface on the rear side. The front surface side has two vertical surfaces in which at least one of the two vertical surfaces has an acute angle. The width of the front surface of the block is larger than the width of the rear surface. In one embodiment of the present invention, the left and right side surfaces are symmetrical. In another embodiment of the present invention, the left and right side surfaces are asymmetric, wherein one side surface is a vertical surface perpendicular to the front surface and the rear surface. Thus, the block of the present invention can be used for a general purpose in civil engineering work such as building a road.
