An air filter comprising a primary filter and a polishing filter is disclosed. The primary filter comprises a monolith 10 containing active-particulate. The air to be filtered travels through the primary filter in a generally parallel path to the passageway (12). The polishing filter 36 has a first major surface and a second major surface and also contains active-fine particles. The polishing filter is generally arranged to move from the first major surface to the second major surface as air passes through. The filter of the present invention exhibits significant performance compared to the same primary and polishing filters taken separately.
