Reverse osmosis system with energy recovery devices

A reverse osmosis system according to the present invention includes a first membrane array, a second membrane array, a hydraulic booster and a motor generator. The first membrane array is configured to produce a first permeate stream and a first concentrate stream from the raw water stream. The second membrane array is configured to produce a second permeate stream and a second concentrate stream from the first concentrate stream. The booster is configured to increase the pressure of at least one of the raw water flow and the first concentrated water flow using energy from the second concentrated water flow. The motor generator may be coupled to the hydraulic booster and operable to drive the hydraulic booster using energy from the power source. The motor generator may be operable to supply power to the power source using the energy of the second concentrate stream.
