The mobile network operator (MNO) can control the Wi-Fi QoS. 3GPP has specified control mechanisms for various levels of Quality of Service (QoS) over cellular access and core networks. The embodiments described herein provide a distinction of Wi-Fi QoS based on MNO requirements. In particular, extensible authentication protocol (EAP) and diagram messages can be extended to include wireless local area network QoS parameters. This may be used by the user equipment to set up the uplink 802.11e user priority (UP) for offloaded or evolved packet core-routed WiFi traffic.
