A RNA- RNA SMALL MOLECULE INHIBITORS OF INFLUENZA A RNA-DEPENDENT RNA POLYMERASE

Antiviral compositions and methods that are particularly effective in the treatment and prevention of influenza A virus are contemplated. Cell analysis is also disclosed as related to the detection of influenza RNA-dependent RNA polymerase activity in mammalian cells that identify low molecular compounds with antiviral properties, particularly those that are independent of other influenza A component components. A preferred assay allows to identify virus growth inhibitors that do not interfere with normal cellular activity.
