SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR SUPPLYING AN ENERGY GRID WITH ENERGY FROM AN INTERMITTENT RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCE

The present invention relates to a system and method for supplying an energy grid using energy from an intermittently renewable energy source. The present invention utilizes renewable energy generated by windmill or other Renewables. Renewable energy can be used to supply energy to regional or national energy grids. However, according to the present invention, at least a portion of the renewable energy is stored by using energy to produce hydrogen and nitrogen. Hydrogen and nitrogen are subsequently converted to ammonia, which is stored to be provided to the ammonia gas turbine. The gas turbine burns ammonia to produce energy for the energy grid. Unused process heat, e.g., waste heat, is collected from one or more appropriate first stages of the system and directed to one or more appropriate second stages of the system to improve the efficiency of the second stages. This improves the overall efficiency of the system.
