The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease comprising FPS-ZM1 or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. The present invention further relates to a food composition for preventing or ameliorating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease containing FPS-ZM1 or the pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a method for preventing or treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, comprising a step of administering the pharmaceutical composition to a subject suffering from a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or a subject with possibility of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Since the composition comprising the FPS-ZM1 or the pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof has shown excellent therapeutic effects in an animal model in which chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is induced, the composition can be widely applied for preventing, treating, or ameliorating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
