FIELD: technological processes.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of activating a selective hydrodesulfurization catalyst of catalytic cracking gasoline. This method combines the separation of the activation process into two stages: in the first stage, the catalyst is sulfided by passing through a catalyst bed of a hydrogen-containing gas and hydrogen sulfide with a concentration of H2S in the range 1–10 % vol. when heated from 120 to 400 °C and pressure from the range of 0.1–4.0 MPa; in a second step, the sulfide catalyst is modified by passing a dissolved in the hydrocarbon feed of the complex compound of the metal IA and/or IIA group in a hydrogen-containing gas stream at a temperature in the range of 100–300 °C and pressure from the range of 0.1–3.0 MPa.;EFFECT: technical result consists in increasing the selectivity of the catalyst with regard to desulfurization reactions in comparison with the hydrogenation reactions in the process of selective hydrotreatment of catalytic cracking gasoline and preservation of its octane number.;6 cl, 9 ex, 2 tbl
