The invention relates to medicine and is intended for assessing the severity of the course of chronic erosive gastritis associated with Helicobacter pylori (HP) and the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). Conduct an assessment of the dissemination of HP mucosa of the stomach and identify the number of copies of EBV at 10⁵ cells infiltration. If a number of copies of VEB is detected from 10,000 or more to 10⁵ cells of the infiltrate, the degree of severity of the course of the disease is assessed as severe; when a number of copies of VEB is found from 1000 to 10,000 per 10⁵ cells of the infiltrate - as an average; when a number of copies of VEB is found from 100 to 1000 per 10⁵ cells of the infiltrate - as light; if the number of copies of VEB is detected to 100 per 10⁵ cells of infiltrate - as a degree of severity, not requiring EBV treatment.
