FIELD: textile.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and water-based composition for producing textiles with water repellency properties, having great durability when washing and/or resistance to weather conditions. Method comprises applying an emulsified liquid composition to a textile article; optionally adjusting the amount of the composition applied to the textile article; drying the treated textile article to a dry state; heat treatment of the treated textile article at a temperature of 100 to 200°C; removing the remaining unreacted composition from the treated textile article by washing with water and re-drying the treated textile. Emulsified liquid composition consists of water; alkylalkoxysilane; at least one emulsifier, surfactant, thickener and/or stabiliser; a water-soluble acid catalyst and unavoidable impurities.
