A self-propelled snow removing machine for running behind, comprising: a machine body (19) having a front end and a rear end; a snow removing unit (13) arranged to perform a snow removing operation on the front end of the machine body (19); an engine (14); a traveling unit (11L, 11R) disposed on the machine body (19) and drivable to cause locomotion of the machine body (19); left and right operating handle bars (17L, 17R) extending upwardly and rearwardly from a rear portion of the machine body (19), the operating handle bars (17L, 17R) being formed on each side of a longitudinal centerline (CL) of the machine body, respectively A control unit (61) for controlling the operation of the snow removing unit (13) and the operation of the locomotive unit an operating portion (40) mounted to extend between the left and right operating handles (17L, 17R) for being operated by an operator for instructions to the control unit (61) a snow removal unit posture control (55) disposed on the operating section (40) on one side of the longitudinal centerline (CL) of the machine body (19) for operator manipulation to control a position of a snow removing unit (13) a locomotive standby lever (42) pivotally attached to the left or right operating handle bar (17L, 17R) on the other side of the longitudinal centerline (CL) of the machine body (19) to be gripped by the operator around the machine body (19) in a propulsion standby state, wherein the locomotion standby lever when it is no longer the operator e is engaged, the machine body (19) automatically placed in a Fortbewegungs-blocking state; anda mode selecting switch (51, 51 ') disposed on the operating portion (40) and disposed in front of the locomotive standby lever for operator manipulation to select a snow clearing mode from among a plurality of alternative snow clearing modes that are stored in the control unit (61 ) are set in advance based on combinations of a traveling speed of the engine body (19), a rotational speed of the engine (14), and an opening of a throttle valve (71) associated with the engine (14).
