The invention relates to a device for the automated toxicity testing of substances on a whole of fertilized poultry eggs, the device being designed as a compact device with the following combined in a common housing units: at least one sample receiving unit for receiving the whole of the fertilized poultry eggs, each of the poultry eggs having a unique identifiable and addressable location, a climate chamber surrounding the sample receiving unit with a heating and ventilation system, an embryonic heart rate detection unit on each poultry egg with a tracking device for positioning the detection unit on each poultry egg, an evaluation unit for processing the data determined by the detection unit and to perform a statistical evaluation on the whole of the fertilized poultry eggs, a control unit for operation control of the detection unit and the heating and ventilating System, an output unit for outputting the results of the statistical evaluation.
