A process for the production of a given gas discharge tube. The method comprises the steps of:– Providing a piston (1) with an inner surface (5),– Application of a barrier layer (4) on the inner surface (5) of the piston (1) by means of an ald - method.Furthermore, a gas discharge tube and a discharge lamp is specified.
