A pump tube (100) is provided for a gas discharge lamp. The pump tube (100) has a pump hole (110); a first area (104) of the pump tube (100) on one side of the pump hole (110) with an inlet for filling with a gas; a second area (112) of the pump tube (100) on the opposite side of the pump tube (100) with respect to the pump hole (110); and a lamp bulb filling accommodation area (128), which is designed to accommodate at least a portion of a gas filling (124) for the gas discharge lamp and to hold the at least one portion of the gas filling until after the pump tube (100) has been introduced into a lamp bulb of the gas discharge lamp; wherein the lamp bulb filling accommodation area (128) is arranged in the second area (112) of the pump tube (100).
