The invention relates to a method for carrying out a welding operation for welding a welding element (1) to a carrier element according to the principle of the arc ignition using a, by generating a magnetic field moving arc. As a result, the welding process can be carried out with a particularly low welding current. In addition, it can be achieved thereby that no score is formed between the welding element (1) and the solidified melting material.
