In this application, arrangements are given for amplifying spatially and temporally addressable radiation fields. The central idea of the invention is that a complementary radiation field is generated for a radiation field to be amplified, wherein the spatial distribution of the intensity or the energy density of the complementary radiation field is spatially adjusted such that the sum of the intensity or the energy density of the radiation field to be amplified and from the complementary radiation field corresponds to a predefined location-dependent function. In addition, the power or pulse energy of the complementary radiation field is adjusted in time so that the sum of the power or energy from the radiation field to be amplified and from the complementary radiation field corresponds to a defined function. A preferred situation arises when the sum is a constant.
